E3 is happening this Monday and it seems that the old girl will be back to her young, sexy form again. It’s interesting how E3 has mimicked the life of Britney Spears so well. Brit has made her comeback, but she’s nowhere as sexy as E3 is. All joking aside, we’re extremely excited for this year’s show. While we won’t be there physically, we’ll be there in absolute fanboy spirit. So this week we cover all the topics, revelations and surprises that will make this the best E3 yet.
A couple of week’s ago it was revealed that Bionic Commando: Rearmed was getting a price drop on the PSN and on May 25th Xbox Live Gold members would soon get their own discount on the game. Yes, the time is now so as a late, but friendly reminder be sure to pick up this classic remake for only 400 MSP (5.00 USD). Here’s a little video just in case you need any convincing.
As a fan of the original NES title I’ve been avidly enjoying the remake so be sure to tune in on my review of Bionic Commando: Rearmed on the Heads Up! Display this Friday. This is one the higher quality games on Xbox Live Arcade so please show your support and thank the developers by picking up this title. You only have until Sunday and then the deal ends!
In this week’s episode of the Heads Up! Display Show podcast, Darin is on a Vin Diesel kick. Somebody save him. We discuss the quirkiness of Fable 2. The Red Faction Guerilla Multiplayer demo is really fun. There are surprises and hilarity filling this podcast to the brim!
Also, Daniel makes an obscure movie reference during the Fable 2 discussion. The first person to answer what movie it is, will win something. No, we don’t know what that is yet.
When E3 ‘09 comes around this year, On-Live will be scarce. On-Live is the newest digital distribution client that made a huge splash at GDC ‘09 in March. CFO Mike McGarvey claims in his blog that the retail focus of E3 is against their belief of non-retail digital distribution.
McGarvey writes, “More than anything, E3 is a retail-oriented conference, both for retail platforms and retail publishers, and OnLive is neither. You’ll hear and see plenty from us this year in the run up to our external Beta and launch, delivered directly to your home through your broadband connection.”
If On-Live were a band, they’d be Green Day. Totally anti-establishment, but completely pop to the core.
While On-Live is going to be absent from E3, you can still expect more information as their fall release approaches.
Yesterday was a day full of rumors and speculation. Will the PSP start to utilize the Playstation Network more fully? I sure hope so, because 3 straight months of logging on and seeing the same downloads makes the service a bit redundant in my eyes. Warner Brothers had a busy day as they matched the bidding price to take over a majority stake in Midway. If WB was a female, she’d be the cougar of all cougars. We all know she’s getting a little tired of Lego. If you haven’t downloaded Plants Vs. Zombies yet, you’re a fool. World of Warcraft is wonderful as long as you don’t have someone ganking you for money in real life.
Oh, and Heads Up! We’re recording our podcast today.
It’s Friday and that means that today we’ll be recording Episode 18 of the Heads Up! Display Show podcast. If you have not listened to the show yet, you can click on the following link and download it for free.
Criterion Games, makers of the Burnout series has released a new premium download for Burnout Paradise. At this point I’m wondering how much DLC this game can take. It kinda reminds me of that Kirby advertisement where they compare the content of the game to eating rediculous amounts of food.
From Criterion:
If you know Paradise City, you’ll be familiar with the huge, under-construction suspension bridge that leads into the ocean to the East of Downtown Paradise. But the question we’ve been asked by so many fans is – what’s on the other side of the bridge?
Well, now you’ll be able to find out what’s on the other side when they release Big Surf Island on June 11th. The main concept of this new area is if you can see it, you can drive it. This means that there are crazy jumps and multiple levels on just about any surface. There are a lot of different areas of Big Surf Island, which reminds me of a freestyle skateboard park. There are bridges, ramps and a rediculous big air ramp that is bound to make some sweet replays.
The Island has two main flavors to it. There’s the industrial front end of the island with an entrace on a bridge that looks like a recreation of the Golden Gate Bridge. There’s a lot going on here from a spiraling tower, to a construction site with lots of possibilities for jumps and stunts. The back-end of the island features a more tropical take that ends with a massive ramp.
Burnout Paradise: Big Surf Island will be available on XBox Live and on the Playstation Network on June 11th. Be sure to check out.
Craig Harris of IGN.com has confirmed that Nintendo will publish the Metroid Prime Trilogy for the Nintendo Wii. The set will come out this august on the curt-tails of the two-year anniversary of Metroid Prime Corruption. The cool thing about this set is what Nintendo has done for Metroid Prime and MP:2:Echoes. The original gamecube games have been optimized for 480p, Widescreen support and the same Nunchuck/Wii-mote controls that were implemented very well in Metroid for the Wii.
Consider yourselves lucky, North Americans, as the Japanese haven’t gotten quite the deal that you will get. In Japan, both Gamecube games have been re-worked but are selling seperately. When the trilogy comes state-side, you will get all three games for $49.99. Metroid Prime 3 is still one of the best selling titles since its 2006 release, so getting this and 2 other games is definitely getting bang for your buck.
Who says celebrities are too cool to play video games? Matthew Perry certainly doesn’t think so. In a recent interview on The View, Perry explains that his addiction to videogames has sometimes gotten in the way of good health. Apparently he needed injections in his hands to prevent carpel-tunnel syndrom.
What’s even better is the fact that not only is he into mainstream titles like Fallout 3, he’s also down for some obscure gaming by way of Klonoa for the Wii.
On May 5th, Perry wrote: “About to try a new video game called Klonoa….I’ll let you all know how it is. I’m 39.”
Ten days later, the actor was still into it, writing that he was going “back to the gym and then a little Klonoa.” Perry clarifies for the uninitiated that Klonoa “is not a venereal disease..it’s a video game.”
Finally, Perry updates the Twitter-following masses with: “Many of you have asked what Klonoa game I am playing. It’s the new one on the Wii. I’m at level six. I play with my pants around my ankles.”
That’s right, he plays Klonoa and he’s not afraid to show off his manhood. There’s something deeply disturbing about that statement if you look too far into it.
