Good blog post. I'm not that great at irony and satire, so I'll just say that your point is well taken. Every game is at least partially derived from some other game idea. While Darksiders certainly has a debt to pay to Zelda, WoW has an equal if not greater debt to Everquest II, Everquest, and Ultima Online.

I think the hardest place to be right now in the games industry is the middle, i.e. a middle-sized, middle-budget studio without the luxury of falling back on retro indie credentials or the resources to compete graphically with the most bleeding-edge shooter. The only solution I can come up with is that a company needs both a clear vision and a razor-sharp sense of audience. And a part of me thinks, sadly, that commitment to one's vision may require one's company to take a financial beating a lot of the time.

from one who has never played the campaign of ODST, this article truly inspires me to either a) go break into my friend's house and glue my rear quarters to his couch, or b) say "bye bye, college" for a year and blow all the money i have on a 360 and ODST and myriad other games.
i applaud your journalism.

PS i'd like to see that other blog post with all the parallels drawn.

Hey I just wanted to let you know, I really like the written material on your site. But I am utilising Firefox on a machine running version 9.04 of Ubuntu and the UI aren't quite satisfying. Not a important deal, I can still basically read the articles and search for info, but just wanted to inform you about that. The navigation bar is kind of difficult to apply with the config I'm running. Keep up the good work!
